What is a lawyer?

A lawyer, according to Black's Law Dictionary, is "a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person licensed to practice law." Law is the system of rules of conduct established by the sovereign government of a society to correct wrongs, maintain stability, and deliver justice. Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who retain (i.e., hire) lawyers to perform legal services.

Criminal Law

In the Criminal Law branch of the practice, we deal with people who have been charged by police or another regulatory body with committing a criminal offence. These charges can range from minor traffic offences to serious criminal matters requiring a trial in either the County or Supreme Court. Our approach to criminal matters is to take your instructions and then obtain the police brief of evidence. Once we have the brief of evidence, we will consider your instructions and give you a realistic assessment as to the case against you and your chances of successfully defending the charge (if you wish to do so). Should you wish to defend the charge, we can appear for you or brief counsel to do so to maximize your prospects of success. Should you wish to plead guilty, we can represent you in court to ensure that you get the best result possible.
