What is a lawyer?

A lawyer, according to Black's Law Dictionary, is "a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person licensed to practice law." Law is the system of rules of conduct established by the sovereign government of a society to correct wrongs, maintain stability, and deliver justice. Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who retain (i.e., hire) lawyers to perform legal services.

Family Law and Domestic Partner Disputes

Disputes relating to property and children’s issues between married couples or domestic partners are governed by the Family Law Act 1975 and the Relationships Act 2008. This firm has a long familiarity and vast experience with both areas of law and will be able to properly guide and help clients through this very emotional and stressful experience with understanding and compassion. It is always better to reach a commercial settlement in relation to property issues where on party believes that they have not received enough and the other party believes that they have given too much. This is said to be a good settlement. In the event that this cannot be obtained then the Court system will be required to impose a solution where neither party may be happy with the outcome. In relation to children’s issues the courts will always look at what is in the best interests of the child or children rather that what the parents want for them selves. The client will be carefully guided through the minefield of law and emotion to obtain what is hoped to be a fair and just decision for the children and the parties involved taking into account the requirements and instructions of the client.

Every care shall be taken to explain your rights and obligations in this area of law, with careful consideration of your instructions and requirements. We shall always advise of the possible and probable but at the same time attempt to have the other party or the Court reach a conclusion in line with your requirements.
